Pediatric Nursing Services
Children are not just “little adults” when it comes to medical care! Often they are just discovering life and need to be treated as a child and not as an adult. Pediatric nurses from Craig HomeCare offer intensive pediatric nursing care in the patient’s home and community setting.
By providing this clinical, educational, and technical support, a “hospital without walls” is created allowing children to thrive at home and families to receive much needed relief and support. Our licensed and certified team members (RN, LPN, or CNA) are specially trained in pediatric medicine and know that you cannot treat a child as “a little adult” but instead must customize care to meet their unique needs and appreciate their many gifts.
Payment: Services are typically paid for by Medicaid, Insurance Programs, or Private Pay arrangements. Contact us to discuss your needs and we’ll help you determine eligibility.

Craig HomeCare staffs over 600 specially trained pediatric RNs, LPNs or CNAs in the home & community setting to care for the specific medical needs of pediatric patients. Our pediatric nurses work customized shifts to provide the patients care up to 24 hours a day. Clinically, we have many years of proven success caring for the most medically complex and fragile children and their families. We work in cooperation with the patients’ physician, clinic staff, hospital staff, insurance companies, case managers, and the family to ensure the best plan of care is developed and followed. This allows the child to benefit from the collaboration of all the providers involved in their care.
Examples of Care Provided:
- Ventilators
- Tracheostomies
- Feeding Tubes
- Oxygen
We understand the stress and challenges presented to the family while loving and caring for a medically fragile child in the home. Craig HomeCare strives to provide the family with qualified, caring and dedicated pediatric nurses to allow the family time to also take care of themselves and not worry about the care being provided to their child.
Our pediatric private duty nursing services make it possible for medically fragile children to stay at home in their communities and with their families, instead of staying in the hospital or other medical institutions. Craig HomeCare serves three states covering both metro and rural areas. This allows families in rural areas the opportunity to stay in their home and not have to move to a metro area for in- home private duty nursing care.
Benefits of private duty nursing:
- Care is provided by highly trained and competent nurses in your home, allowing your child and your family to thrive in your home and community setting instead of remaining in the hospital or institutional setting.
- Care is coordinated with your primary physician and all providers involved in the care plan, supporting the best care plan and health outcomes possible.
- We realize that having nurses in your home is both helpful and stressful at times. We respect that so we involve you in selecting nurses that fit both your needs and your child’s needs.
- Peace of mind knowing that you can sleep, go to work, pay attention to your other children and family members, all while knowing your medically fragile child is in competent and caring hands.
Sometimes patients need medical care that doesn’t need to be given in a hospital setting but requires more than a parent or guardian can handle at home. This falls under Skilled Nursing visits and Craig HomeCare can help with that.
Skilled nursing (SN) visits are intermittent visits by a nurse to provide skilled nursing procedures and/or caregiver education and training. SN visits are for children who require some medical assistance at home, but do not require continuous private duty nursing care. SN visits are approved by a physician and the child’s insurance company/Medicaid and are performed by a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) under the supervision of an RN. SN visits are usually conducted in the child’s home or other approved settings.

This allows your child to experience the educational environment without compromising the medical care they need. We can perform all the services of private duty nursing and skilled nursing visits in the school setting. We contract with many school districts or cooperatives so the experience is as seamless as possible for you.
Benefits of School Nursing Services:
- Care is provided by highly trained and competent nurses so you’re assured the same quality care is provided while your child attends school.
- Your child can experience and thrive in the educational setting.
We can provide care during bus transport.
The transition process from Hospital-to-Home is a critical period that must be handled effectively to prevent unnecessary re-admissions, ER visits, and stressful calls to the Physician during the time you’re adjusting to providing care at home. Our hospital-to-home program offers focused, intensive nursing and transition services to support an effective discharge to home. We collaborate with all parties involved to coordinate the process before, during, and after discharge. We always go beyond the basics, and some areas (currently KS) offer programs that allow much more extensive support than is typically authorized by Medicaid program or insurance companies.
The process is inclusive of many services, some examples include:
- Single point of contact within Craig HomeCare to provide consistency and increase families comfort level during entire transition process.
- Craig HomeCare representative to participate in/attend discharge planning/care conference sessions prior to discharge.
- Extensive education and training.
- Home assessments and consultation to promote ease and continuity of care once home.
- Nurses assigned to your case receive training with you at the hospital.
- RN to accompany the patient home for support and assistance where needed.
- Additional staffing during critical transition periods.
- Identify community resources available to the family. Facilitate communication between those resources and family.
- Much more!
Sometimes you and your family need a break! Caring for a medically fragile child is demanding, we can provide supportive care when families/caregivers need a break from the rigors of day-in and day-out care. Programs have different requirements; please contact us for more specific details.
Other Nursing Services
Many of our patients have care & service needs after their 21st birthday. We continue to support them by offering intensive nursing care in their home or community setting. Our licensed and certified team members apply the same caring approach we use for our pediatric patients to create a customized service & care plan.
